Though the Ferro alloys units made sizable business & profits, the group went into product diversification by setting up a state of the art fully automatic, high speed wire rod mill & wire drawing unit with an installed capacity to produce 42500 MT of Wire rods & 20000 MT of wires with a very modest cost of Rs.15 crores.

The unit was commissioned in 1997 & is unique in the private sector in this region. The only competition is from the SAIL owned Bhilai Steel Plant. HSL is producing wire rods & wires as per customer specification at competitive rates and credit.

There was a great deal of initial skepticism regarding the viability of such a project as no such mill had been set up with such a minimum outlay. However all the clouds have been cleared within few months of the commissioning of the mill. It has been a runaway success so much so that the capacity has been enhanced from 42500 MT to 50000 MT for Wire rods & 20000 MT to 25000 MT for wire drawing. The turnover of the company has risen from Rs. 44.16 crores in 1997-98 to Rs. 96.89 crores in 2002-03. Customers of Hira Steels Ltd. are spread all over India.
