GPIL had entered with an MOU with the Government of Chhattisgarh on 17/09/2008 for setting up a 1000 MW Thermal Power Plant. For this purpose, a SPV named Godawari Energy Limited (previously as Godawari Power Limited) was formed. The proposed capacity was increased from 1000 MW to 1320 MW.

This 2 x 660 MW supercritical power project is the most ambitious project of Hira Group with an estimated project cost of `7,000 Crores. The project is under implementation at Tehsil: Dharamjaygarh, Dist. Raigarh, Chhattisgarh and is planned for commissioning under 12th Five year plan of Government of India.
